This fast-paced survey (covering ca. 1000 lines of verse or 30 OCT pp. of prose per week) is designed to boost your knowledge of Latin language, literature and culture via readings of a range of authors and texts (Plautus to Ovid).  While focusing on close engagement with the Latin, we will also spend time thinking about the local interpretive issues raised by particular passages as well as the larger interpretive questions raised by our readings taken as a whole.  There will be some optional secondary readings and some attention throughout to the scholarly “state of play.”
